'Phantom' scares up aid for worthy causes
A shadowy figure menaced Mount Airy in recent days — however, no bodies were left in his wake, only financial support for a historic auditorium and local hospice care. The individual at the heart of this activity was only make-believe, a character in a local theater production of “The Phantom Strikes Again.” It had a three-day run last Friday through Sunday at L.H. Jones Auditorium on Jones School Road.

California law could force churches to train workers on undefined ‘hate speech’
California churches are concerned about a new law requiring employers to train workers on “hate speech” without defining the term. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1803 last month. The requirement takes effect in 2028 and applies to employers with at least five employees. The California Family Council opposes the law, warning that California may treat Christian beliefs about sex and marriage as hateful.

Lechner filed the lawsuit in federal court last week. It names Monroe Public Schools, Superintendent Andrew Shaw, Athletic Director Chet Hesson and the Michigan High School Athletic Association as defendants.

Policy group calls for data center power studies, tax break reviews
(The Center Square) – Advancing American Freedom Foundation wants Congress to see how much electricity data centers use. It also wants states to reveal how much their data center tax breaks cost. The conservative group made those recommendations in a paper by Kevin Dayaratna. He’s the president of AAFF’s Institute for Statistical Policy Analysis. The paper argues that lawmakers and utilities need better information before deciding data center policy.

As work continues to repair flood-damaged public courts in Mount Airy, a professional pickleball company with a national presence and a location in Winston-Salem is trying to fill the void – including a possible expansion here.
