An Impassioned Cruz Fires Back at Obama: He's 'More Mad at Me' than at ISIS

Trump: The National Enquirer Actually Has 'a Very Good Record of Being Right'

National Review — Donald Trump eschewed an opportunity to condemn a National Enquirer article claiming his opponent, Ted Cruz, has conducted a number of affairs with his female staff. The Enquirer, Trump said this morning, "actually has a very good record of being right."

Kasich Calls for Trump, Cruz to 'Consolidate Behind Me'

National Review — Donald Trump and Ted Cruz should suspend their campaigns and "consolidate" behind John Kasich, John Kasich suggested this morning during an appearance on Meet the Press. "Ted Cruz's campaign is repeatedly called for you to get out," host Chuck Todd said. "Saying a vote for you is a vote for Donald Trump.

Obama: Cuba's Revolution, Like America's, Was a 'Liberation Movement'

National Review — President Obama told the Cuban people this morning the Communist revolution that brought the Castros to power was a "liberation movement," just like America's own revolution. "Here's my message to the Cuban government and the Cuban people," Obama said.

Obama: 'I Personally Would Not Disagree' with Castro's Critiques of America

National Review — After listening to Cuban president Raúl Castro attack America over human rights, its trade embargo with Cuba, its "illegal occupation" of Guantanamo Bay, its "inconceivable" failure to provide free food, health-care, and social security, President Obama said that he "personally would not disagree" with his many of criticisms. "President Castro, I think, has pointed out that in his view making sure everybody's getting a decent education or health care, has basic security in old age, that those things are human rights as well," Obama said.

Trump Doubles Down on Theory Romney's Not Really Mormon

National Review — On Friday, Donald Trump questioned whether Mitt Romney is actually Mormon. "I have many friends that live in Salt Lake City - and by the way, Mitt Romney is not one of them," Trump said during a Salt Lake City speech. "Are you sure he's a Mormon? Are we sure?"

Confessions of a Conservative Vaccine Truther

Confessions of a Conservative Vaccine Truther

PJMedia — For a perfect example of how hysteria governs modern debates over complex issues, witness what happened yesterday morning to Governor Chris Christie. For the apparently unpardonable offense of offhandedly suggesting parents ought to have some freedom to decide how their kids are vaccinated, the governor's political career was declared over. The instantaneous eruption from America's self-deputized thought police had the governor - only hours later - meekly offering "clarification" of his earlier comments. The debate over vaccines, itself nearing pandemic proportions in the U.S., is following a familiar pattern. People are either pro-science or anti-; in agreement with the "consensus" or crazy "conspiracists" and "deniers."

McConnell Misses the Mark

McConnell Misses the Mark

Human Events — Give Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell credit for trying to break the impasse over a debt deal. But don't give him anything more than that. The plan, which enables President Obama to raise the debt ceiling without Republican support, is too cute by half. The objective is to shift the debt onus onto the president: As he submits requests for expanded borrowing, he must also include spending plans, which Congress can support or oppose in symbolic referendums. While McConnell insists the deal is voided should Obama demand tax hikes, the strategy still suffers three major flaws.

From the bonfire of their vanities, our liberties continue to go up in smoke

From the bonfire of their vanities, our liberties continue to go up in smoke

Daily Caller — Tobacco's damaging impact on smokers' lungs and hearts is well established, but ongoing research into its impact on the brain is yielding startling results. New evidence comes from New York City, where the City Council just voted to outlaw smoking in public parks and beaches. The idea first had to overcome an unusually skeptical political class. Mayor Mike Bloomberg, normally a stalwart on all matters health, worried the city just didn't have enough cops to enforce it. Councilman Leroy Comrie (D-Queens) invoked Kristallnacht and warned that if "we start going after individual personal liberties," we'll wind up with something akin to Nazism.

COLUMBIA'S ASTROTURF

COLUMBIA'S ASTROTURF

New York Post — COLUMBIA University is making great efforts to prevent community objections from derailing its plan for a massive expansion in West Harlem. But its methods seem to rely more on big-money power politics than on listening to the folks who live and work where the school wants to build. At a meeting held last month by West Harlem's Community Board 9, for example, a good chunk of the school's "local supporters" looked to be patients from an East Harlem drug-rehab clinic. Several people were outside handing out pamphlets castigating area business owner Nick Sprayregen, the expansion's most vocal critic.

EVICTIONS MADE (TOO) EASY

EVICTIONS MADE (TOO) EASY

New York Post — TO realize its planned expansion in Manhattanville, Columbia University will need the power of eminent domain - that is, the ability to force property owners to sell at a "fair" price, below what they'd otherwise hold out for. The prospect of such takings has probably caused more resentment than any other part of the school's plan. Technically, the power would be exercised by the state-run Empire State Development Corp. (ESDC) - which must first reach a formal finding that the area is "blighted."
