2026 Cherokee is Jeep’s first hybrid without a plug, combined with two electric motors and a 1.08-kWh battery for a peak 210 hp and 230 lb-ft of torque. The new Cherokee springs from Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, which underpins both internal-combustion and EV powertrains and is used by the Dodge Charger Daytona, Jeep Wagoneer S, and upcoming Jeep Recon.

Regime change atop Stellantis is breathing new life into US brands, particularly Jeep. “The brand no longer has a pricing problem,” said Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf. This year, an all-new hybrid Jeep Cherokee will arrive, along with the updated Grand Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee and the Recon, Jeep’s first trail-rated battery-electric SUV. Expect “bigger powertrains, more ICE variants” and bigger tires.

Mainstream Convertibles Are Disappearing—But Mini Still Has Plenty

Every major automaker has convertibles, retractable hardtops, or high-end European cabriolets, but can any brand match Mini for its commitment to droptops? The convertible Mini Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works combined accounted for at least 12% of all sales in the US so far this year for the British brand. All weighing under 3,200 pounds, the Mini droptops are agile, fun, and reasonably quick. Time behind the wheel is most rewarding.
