OAKDALE, La. (KPLC/Gray News) - A police officer in Louisiana is accused of attempting to plant drugs and trying to coerce a victim into having sex. Jalen Melbert, 33, of Oakdale, was arrested Monday on charges of abuse of office and malfeasance in office. According to detectives, Melbert attempted to use his position as an officer to influence a victim to engage in sexual activity with him.

NEW YORK (WCBS) - An investigation is now underway after an MTA worker in New York was killed on the job Thursday night after she was hit by a train. It happened near the 161st Street-Yankee Stadium subway stop. The MTA says Moet McCullum, 41, was working as a construction flagger, tasked with notifying passing trains that workers were on the subway tracks. She was on the tracks near River and East 161st streets when she was struck by a D train just after 11:30 p.m., officials say.

(Gray News) - A cute puppy owes his safety to an Ohio state trooper who found him in a cage near a highway. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the trooper, identified as Trooper Kronander, found the pup while doing a routine check of a rest area on Aug. 23. Body-camera footage shows the trooper rescuing the puppy. “Yeah, we’ll get you out of here, OK?” Kronander says to the puppy in the video. “Someone left you?

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage is presenting three days of free programming over Labor Day weekend showing the work involved in running a circus. The program, called “Artistry, Education, and Labor of Circus Arts,” is held at the Arts and Industries Building on the National Mall. It is presented by the Smithsonian and the Circus Arts Conservatory, based in Sarasota, Florida.
