The upcoming U.S. Open will be the first time the NYPD uses drone mitigation allowed under a new federal law to provide security at the sprawling tennis tournament, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch disclosed Friday. Specially trained officers will be at the Flushing Meadows venue to use the mitigation technology as part of a massive police presence — in which officers will be deployed 24 hours day — for the duration of the competition, Tisch said at a news conference.

Reputed Gambino crime family member Angelo Ruggiero Jr., who has spent over 10 months in a federal jail on the alleged NBA card game fixing case, was freed on bail last week to get some medical treatment, federal court records revealed. Ruggiero, 54, was ordered released on Aug. 13 on a $5 million bond signed by his wife, Dawn, and approved by Brooklyn federal magistrate-judge Clay Kaminsky, the records show.
