NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Social Services is bringing help directly to North Nashville residents who are struggling financially. The agency launched "Community Connect" today at Greater St. John M.B. Church on 26th Avenue North — and it's not a one-time event. The program will return every third Tuesday of the month from noon to 3 p.m. The idea is simple: instead of making people navigate a complicated system of phone calls and appointments, a social worker comes to them.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia faces dual legal battles as DOJ seeks to reinstate smuggling charges

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Justice Department is pushing to reinstate criminal charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia months after a federal judge in Tennessee threw out the case. Abrego Garcia was accused of smuggling immigrants into the U.S. illegally following a November 2022 traffic stop in Tennessee. A lower court judge dismissed the case in May, ruling that prosecutors acted vindictively and retaliated against Abrego Garcia after he was wrongfully deported to El Salvador last year.
