Live at Leeds, as announced by Huw Stephen’s last night, has released its next batch of names for the 2018 edition of the city festival. The festival, which we’ve been lucky enough to host a stage at for the past two years, has added over 60 acts to the list that they already had. TMB favourites such as Caro, Her’s, Grace Lightman, Alaskalaska, and Sports Team have been added to a bill that already featured the likes of Blaenavon, Spring King and The Horrors.

If there was one thing that was going to bring about some new writing from me though, a new track from Patrick Watson is it. The guy is one of my favourite modern day artists. Up there with the likes of The National, Sufjan Stevens and Fiona Apple. ‘Broken’ is more of Watson at his brilliant best.

The release of Villains has got the music community, quite rightly, fearful and excited – the King of the Jungle/Ginger Elvis striding racing and prowling the plains in search of satisfaction. In fact, that might be the sensation one got from Queens of the Stone Age’s previous album, …Like Clockwork (2013). That record, celebrated by critics, showed a darker and swamp-dwelling stomp to the band – following from the twilight, by-the-fire intensity and evocativeness of Lullabies to Paralyze.

The last time Grace Lightman appeared on these pages, we had the privilege of premiering the ‘Repair Repair’ video. It was a track that managed to capture our attention from the first listen. ‘Fangs’ is Lightman’s first release since then, and it’s bloody brilliant. I’m very excited to hear more. As stated in the press release, the track is a sweetly sinister return from the Londoner, representing an ambitiously catchy, melodically fuller departure from Lightman’s previously pared back songwriting.

One of the best choruses of 2017 sees the track soar whilst tongue-in-cheek lyrics keep it firmly grounded, despite the best efforts of an abundance of wind chimes. I’ve been very vocal about the fact that From Deewee, the first album from Soulwax in twelve years, is one of my favourite new records this year. In fact, it is a record that I enjoy so much I decided to come out of live review retirement when the duo brought their live show to the Ritz. To add a bit of a backstory to this review. Soulwax were at Bilbao BBK last summer, one of the names that I was very excited about seeing.

It’s the start of the month which means that it’s time for us to share our favourite tracks that were released last month! Out now on Fat Possum, Hoops’ new single ‘On Top’ is possibly their best so far, although I won’t pretend ‘Rules’ hasn’t been on constant repeat for the last month in my household. The dreamy guitars and melodies of Hoops just keep getting better and better, don’t believe me? Take a listen and go see them on their UK tour in May, no promo, they’re just brilliant.
Oh Wonder make their return with 'Ultralife'
I have to start this news piece with a bit of a confession. I never really ‘got’ Oh Wonder. I was hugely impressed with their entire campaign around their 2015 debut, and the way they went about getting it out there deserves to be recognised, but they weren’t really for me. This is clearly shown by the fact that if you search for them on the site you’ll only find one result – a live review by Breaking More Waves, Robin Seamer. But now they’re back – and evidently, with a track that I rather like.
What's New? SUGAR - I Never Said
Delicate and dreamy, this chilled out debut track from Manchester’s newest band SUGAR is just what the doctor ordered this Friday afternoon. Mystical synths open up this fresh crop from SUGAR, lulling the listener to and fro, with chords so hypnotic you feel as though you could be washed out to sea at any moment.

Genre-hopping collective Strong Asian Mothers have made a name for themselves for taking the best from R&B, hip-hop, electronica and indie, and spinning them into 3-minute shots of post-internet pop. Bear's Den release 'Greenwoods Bethlehem' video. Begin UK tour from Monday
On Thursday, Bear’s Den unveiled a video for their new single, ‘Greenwoods Bethlehem’. The track is the latest to be taken from their top ten charting second album, Red Earth & Pouring Rain, which is out now. The video (which can be found at the bottom of this post) has been cut together using live footage taken from previous dates of the Red Earth & Pouring Rain tour. A tour which will have seen the band play near to 80 shows by the time this run of UK dates is over.

The Staves announce intimate UK tour
Yesterday evening, The Staves announced their first UK tour since leaving the sunny town of Watford and moving to Minneapolis. I almost refused to post this news given the fact that I’ll be at Primavera when they play Manchester… sigh. So, here you go. They’re doing a run of intimate dates that span Manchester, Belfast, Glasgow, Brighton and more. If it had not been made clear in all of the previous posts we’ve done about them, then I very much recommend that you go.
What's New? Matt Maltese - As The World Caves In
If you can listen a Matt Maltese song and not fall in love with his voice, then your world is one that I don’t want to live in. On Tuesday Mr. Maltese released his first track of 2017 and also the first since he signed to Atlantic Records. For those of you that have heard his stuff in the past, you’ll be pleased to know that he has done it again with ‘As The World Caves In’.

It’s March the 3rd! How time flies! Let’s get on with our favourite tracks of February… Fatima Yamaha is back with arguably the funkiest release of 2017 so far. My personal highlight of this month’s three-track EP Araya, “Piayes Beach Bar & Grill” is a four and a half minute steady funk bassline with lively, unpredictable drifting synth lines.
Live at Leeds 2017: 50 more names added to the bill
These announcements just keep on coming! Next up, the already great lineup for this year’s Live at Leeds festival has just got that little bit better. Frightened Rabbit, Vant, AJ Tracey and Strong Asian Mothers are joining already announced names like Rag N Bone Man, Slaves, Wild Beasts and Temples. Green Man 2017: More great names added
There have been announcements galore this morning! With it being St. David’s Day, and with being Welsh myself, then what better place to start than with the latest Green Man Festival announcement. If, like me, you thought the lineup was already looking pretty special, then today’s additions will definitely make you appreciate it all that bit more. The Shins, Thee Oh Sees, Timber Timbre, Andy Shauf and Pumarosa are just some of the acts that I really enjoy who have been added to the bill.
Latitude Festival 2017: First announcement - The 1975, Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes to headline
One of the other festival announcements this morning came the way of Latitude Festival. Last year was the first time that I’d visited the Suffolk site, and I was immediately taken with it. Therefore, the lineup for this year’s event was one that I was really excited about seeing.

San Fermin release 'No Promises' - third single from 'Belong'
San Fermin are a band that we’ve been talking about on TMB since our birth back in 2014 (December 2013 really, but who’s counting?) In August of that year, we talked about their first album and, in particular, the track ‘Renaissance!’. That was followed, in December of 2014, with the track ‘Parasites’ from the second record. Then in November of 2015, I travelled to London (still the only time I’ve done it) to go and meet with the main man of the band, Ellis Ludwig-Leone. And now here we are again.
Dot To Dot Festival: First names revealed for 2017 event
There are a lot of places to discover new music in the UK, but Dot To Dot Festival is undoubtedly one of the best places to go for it. Each year they put together a bill that features acts on the cusp of making it big (see Sundara Karma), and also the ones that will hopefully be joining them in a year or two.
The Staves unveil new track 'Tired As Fuck'
Although, as The Staves state, this track was “written in the midst of a relationship breaking down”, the overall theme of ‘Tired As Fuck’ certainly resonates with my current personal life. After stressing over the Too Many Blogs event that happened last weekend (which is why I’m also slow in posting about this song) it’s their further explanation of it being about, “lamenting the lack of some sort of guidance, but also accepting and resigning yourself to fact that you have to soldier on.
Marika Hackman is back with new track 'Boyfriend'
Technically this track could go into our ‘What’s New?’ section because this is Marika Hackman as you haven’t heard her before. I know that sometimes that phrase can be thrown around a little too frivolously, but here it actually applies. See, Hackman has teamed up with The Big Moon to deliver ‘Boyfriend’ and, quite frankly, it’s fucking ace.

Bit later than we’d usually want to be with our tracks of last month this time around, but it’s here now and it’s full of great tracks! Industrial buzzsaw synths and a pulsating bassline leave the voice of Mavis Staples to carry this ace of a track, with Win Butler rightfully relegated to backing vocals.
