By Tracy Zwick Aleks Kovacevic, who grew up in the West 90s, is through to the second round of doubles at the US Open following an electric match on Saturday in which he and his partner, Mac Kiger of Katonah, New York, beat two Californians – Jenson Brooksby and Marcus Giron, 7-6, 7-5.

By Tracy Zwick Two-time NCAA champ Michael Zheng lost to France’s Arthur Gea in the third round of the US Open on Saturday night, bringing the 22-year-old’s first appearance in the Open’s main draw to a close. In front of hundreds of cheering fans within the amped up atmosphere of Grandstand court, Zheng fell in a four-hour, five-set thriller.

By Tracy Zwick Michael Zheng, the two-time NCAA tennis champ who graduated from Columbia University in May, has made it to the third round of the US Open. This is the first time Zheng has appeared in the Open’s main draw. Late Thursday evening, Zheng defeated China’s Yunchaokete Bu, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, under the lights of Court 12 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, which hosts the US Open.
