Peter Thiel’s Apocalyptic Worldview Is a Dangerous Fantasy
Peter Thiel recently generated headlines with his rambling diatribes about the Antichrist. Thiel’s lurid, apocalyptic view of world politics may be ludicrous or even deranged, but his wealth and power mean that we can’t afford to ignore it. It has been widely reported that the US tech billionaire Peter Thiel recently gave a series of rambling lectures to a private audience in San Francisco in which he laid out his apocalyptic reading of world politics.
Will the U.S. get involved in Iran? Mike Huckabee's evangelical worldview may be the key
"There has been much flirting with the apocalypse lately," the French historian François Hartog wrote recently. In the latest evolution of that trend, Israel's recent attack on Iran has some Christian Zionists chomping at the bit with apocalyptic anticipation. That was made obvious in a message that Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel and perhaps the world's most powerful Christian Zionist, sent President Donald Trump earlier this week, which Trump then posted in full on social media.
Mike Huckabee's old-school Christian Zionism is bad news for anyone who wants Middle East peace
President-elect Donald Trump's choice of Mike Huckabee to serve as ambassador to Israel will have deep implications for the geopolitical futures in the region - not just because Trump's Abraham Accords and Huckabee's pro-settlement ideology are not compatible designs for the Middle East. Equally as important: Huckabee is an old-school Christian Zionist, with the goal of establishing full Israeli sovereignty over Gaza and the West Bank.
Christian Zionism and the Apocalyptic Landscape of Gaza
By Tristan Sturm January 24, 2024 There is no use pretending that all we know about time and space, or rather history and geography, is more than anything else imaginative... imaginative geographical and historical knowledge. -Edward Said, Orientalism (1978), 55.
Belfast’s silent public health crisis? Why we need widespread testing for lead-contaminated water
The water crisis at Flint, a town in Michigan, US in 2014 has focused public attention on the dangers of lead exposure, especially in children. A late 2016 investigation found that nearly 3,000 other communities in the US had even worse lead water levels than Flint. A recently published study claims that “half of US population was exposed to adverse lead levels in early childhood”.

Poll: Do you think RTÉ should stop playing the Angelus? THE ANGELUS IS a one-minute Catholic reflection that is aired daily on RTÉ Radio at 12 noon and 6pm, and on RTÉ One at 6pm, since the inception of the public service broadcaster. After the publishing of the Mother and Baby Home Commission report on Tuesday, people have begun arguing that RTÉ should stop playing the Angelus twice a day.
Opinion: It's no coincidence that some of those storming the US Capitol were New Age conspiracists
THE VIRAL IMAGE that has come to represent last week’s mob attack on the American Capitol building shows a man on the floor of Congress, dressed in fur and bull horns, holding a spear with the American Flag attached to it. One might have expected an image of a member of the militant Proud Boys or a crowd of MAGA hats to represent that infamous day in American history, but instead, it is the shaman and QAnon follower Jake Angeli from Arizona.
The end of the world is coming, just not this Saturday
According to some largely in the US and UK, an alignment of stars and planets foretold in Revelation 12 indicates the world is going to end this Saturday, September 23, 2017. It’s not clear how many people actually believe this prophecy, but it has garnered plenty of attention. It even warranted a reasonably well-produced TV documentary, The Sign, which was spawned by an exegetical video narrated by Dr David Jeremiah, pastor of a San Diego megachurch.
