Secondary Syphilis Associated Nephrotic Syndrome

A previously healthy 17-year-old boy presented with progressive malaise and generalized edema that had been present for 2 weeks. Physical examination revealed diffuse violaceous, nonpruritic scaling rashes, ranging from 3 to 7 mm in diameter, extending over the trunk and limbs, but especially notable on the palms and soles (Figure, A and B ). There was neither hepatosplenomegaly nor oral ulceration, but generalized lymphadenopathy was noted.
