Have you ever used a typewriter?
My parents had one in the basement somewhere, great times.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Definitely Jack Burden from Robert Penn Warren's All the King’s Men.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means constantly trying to improve as a story teller.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I like to get a brief paragraph about the background and context of where the pitch is coming from. Some key people to contact always helps.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Oh yeah big time. I joined my junior year and it became the highlight of my high school experience. I was managing editor my senior year.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
I am an aspiring journalist! The best advice I've ever received was to take any opportunity to write that I could and to practice writing.
