The city of Cape Coral has received a formal request to rename Jaycee Park Roger Dean Park and is accepting input on the proposal submitted by the Dean family. The proposed rename was submitted by Patricia B. Dean in honor of her father. Proposal criteria cited is “Over 35 years commitment and contributions to the city of Cape Coral and its communities as Cape Coral’s first automotive dealership.” The proposal packet also included a petition signed by 200 supporters.

The city of Cape Coral and its Community Redevelopment Agency are looking to partner on a $40 million, 43-parcel land buy in the South Cape. Resolution 259-24 calls for the city to enter into a contract for the sale with Bimini Center of Cape Coral LLC, TCJBN LLC and Four Palms Condominium Association to purchase Bimini East to “further stimulate redevelopment in the downtown core of the City” at a contract price of $40,089,504.

Cape Coral property owners worried about FEMA’s decision to downgrade the city’s community rating and effectively eliminate the related 25% discount on federal flood insurance premiums can breathe a sigh of relief — at least in the short-term.
