Early voting for the June 27 election begins Friday, June 12, and ends Saturday, June 20, excluding Sunday, June 14 and Friday, June 19, which is a state holiday. Early voting hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The ballot includes U.S. House and Senate party-primary runoffs. The winners of these primaries will advance to the Nov. 3 election. Voting hours for that election, which is on a Tuesday, will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. A number of local tax propositions are also on the June 27 ballot.

Voters get to decide on five statewide constitutional amendments on the May 16 ballot: a teachers' pay raise; allowing the City of St. George to form its own school district; allowing the legislature to add or remove employees from unclassified civil service; allowing parishes to reduce or eliminate property taxes on business inventory; and changing the mandatory retirement age for state judges.

A 19-year-old man died Sunday after having been shot at a house party at 913 Maverick Ave., according to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office. Homicide detectives were called to the scene around 2 a.m. They then learned that the victim, Jerrod Jermaine Dorsey, had been transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to the shooting injuries, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release. The incident is under investigation.
