This is our third year in one of Southern Europe’s youngest and fastest growing film festivals and industry hubs. The event drew to a close last night with a sumptuous ceremony to 1,400 guests at the Malta Film Studios. There was no shortage of half-naked dancers twerking on stage, music, film talent, and pyrotechnics.

QUICK’N DIRTY: LIVE FROM MALTA Tamara Kotevska made history in 2019 after co-directing Honeyland (alongside Ljubomir Stefanov), the first movie ever to be nominated simultaneously for Best Documentary Feature and Best International Feature Film. This time, she sits on the director’s chair on her own. The outcome is no less impressive. The story takes place in the village of Češinovo, which is home to the largest stork population in North Macedonia (and perhaps Europe).

QUICK’N DIRTY: LIVE FROM MALTA The story takes place in present-day Denmark. Charming Anker (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) is released from jail after finishing a 15-year sentence for bank robbery. He returns home only to find out that his mother is dead, and that his sister Freja (Bodil Jørgensen) now addresses his brother Manfred (Mikkelsen) by the name of “John”. In reality, Manfred is convinced that he is the late Beatle. He is trapped inside his alter-ego after developing a multiple personality disorder.
