The Worcester County Poetry Association has been celebrating "Bloomsday" every year since 1997 with a "ramble" around the city, with readings from the book at each stop. This year’s Bloomsday event will begin at 8:30 a.m. June 16 at Bancroft Tower, with the last reading starting at 6 p.m. at Oak Barrel Restaurant on Grove Street. There’s a lesson I learned early about iconic Irish writer James Joyce: Reading his work aloud brings clarity to what can often be a challenging text.

'Runaway Train' rockers Soul Asylum set to perform at Off the Rails

1993 was a big year for Soul Asylum. The Minneapolis alt-rock band released what's arguably their most defining single, "Runaway Train," which would go on to earn them the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Rock Song that year, as well as recording and releasing their highly acclaimed "The Complete Unplugged NYC '93," as part of MTV's "Unplugged" series.

I wrote for rock and poetry 'zines for a while, then began freelancing for alt-weeklies such as OC Weekly and Worcester Magazine.
