Víctor Amaya’s Biography

International journalist and correspondent specializing in Venezuela and Latin America. Editorial Director at TalCual, where I led the transition to a fully online multimedia platform and established the audiovisual unit. Founder of Espaja, a fact-checking initiative launched with Transparency Venezuela and supported by the European Union. Foreign correspondent for La Razón (Spain) and Radio France Internationale (RFI). I have participated in cross-border investigations, including the Pandora Papers and the FinCEN Files. Open to international assignments beyond Latin America.

Contributor as reporter or analyst to VICE, Caracas Chronicles, The Christian Science Monitor, EstrellaTV, TV Venezuela and El Venezolano TV (USA), BBC News (UK), ABC News (Australia), TRT World (Turkey), El Confidencial and La Gaceta (Spain), NTN24, Semana and El País de Cali (Colombia), Radio Bío Bío (Chile), La Prensa (Honduras), and Armando.info (Venezuela).

Winner of the 2025 King of Spain International Journalism Award. Additional distinctions include Inter American Press Association Awards for Excellence in Journalism (2017; two categories in 2018; Special Mention in Human Rights in 2019), and an Honorable Mention at the 2024 Javier Valdez Latin American Journalism Award.

Completed the Summer Investigative Program at Columbia Journalism School (2025, full scholarship) and earned a Master’s degree from Complutense University of Madrid (full scholarship). Speaker at PechaKucha Nights (Caracas) and the Gabo Festival (Colombia).
