“The issues plaguing Stage 1 of the Ottawa LRT have been unacceptable and disappointing," said Ontario Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney. The Ontario government has announced it will be launching a public inquiry into Ottawa’s light rail transit (LRT) system. In a statement, Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney said her government will be looking to “get to the bottom of these issues” plaguing Ottawa’s LRT system.

A dozen homes destroyed in Ottawa's west end after fire ravages under construction subdivision

One firefighter had to be treated for heat exhaustion at the scene but was quickly released by paramedics. A dozen townhomes under construction near Canadian Tire Centre have been destroyed following a massive fire. Ottawa Fire Services received multiple 911 calls shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday night reporting heavy smoke near Palladium Drive that could be seen from North Gower. A number of callers also reported propane tanks outside the homes and said they could pose a risk to firefighters.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I worked the overnight shift at 680NEWS in Toronto where I was a news anchor and a traffic reporter.

How is social media changing news?

It makes getting quotes from public figures easier but it could also be seen as lazy reporting because they don't have to dig for sources.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter has everything but it can be all consuming, bordering on obsession.

The CityNews Ottawa team has been recognized by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) for excellence in radio. The team won an industry award for their special program 'Celebrating Pride in a Pandemic.' The broadcast, Celebrating Pride in a Pandemic, was produced by members of the CityNews team, and hosted by Sam Laprade and Jason White. The report was selected for the central region award in the category of 'News: Live Special Events.
