Abstract Veterinary professionals work in demanding environments shaped by individual, relational, organizational, and systemic pressures. Veterinary education can therefore serve as an upstream setting for developing both clinical competence and the capabilities needed for sustainable professional engagement and wellbeing. Competency-based veterinary education offers a structure for treating wellbeing as a professional capability that can be taught, practiced, assessed, and evaluated.

But keep an open mind: Dogs may prefer to sleep in cooler areas of the house during the day but may also like to sleep in the comfort of your bedroom at night. Or they may prefer quiet and secluded areas in a chaotic home environment full of other pets and children — during the current stay-at-home reality many are facing, that might be more applicable than otherwise.

The primary objective of this cross-sectional study was to examine the relationship between dog ownership and physical activity in veterinary students. The secondary objective was to gain an understanding of veterinary students' health-related quality of life (HRQOL), and whether dog ownership and/or physical activity were associated with HRQOL measures. Veterinary students were invited to complete surveys between September and November 2015.
