As Rockstar gears up to take the gaming industry by storm in a few months with Grand Theft Auto 6, it’s safe to assume there has never been an open-world title like this in terms of scope and ambition, and most likely, there won’t be for years, if not decades, after its launch. Given how difficult and expensive it is to make a modern-day open-world game on this scale nowadays, GTA-like titles have become really scarce, unable to compete with Rockstar’s iconic series.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag is widely regarded as one of the best in the series, and many say the new Resynced version improves it further. Rather than simply remastering the classics, Ubisoft made substantial changes by removing, tweaking, and adding new content. I'm not here to compare the two versions, though. Instead, I want to share how my own self-imposed rules turned what should've been an exciting first playthrough into a tedious slog.

Even great games created with clear passion can suffer for a variety of reasons: from the risks of launching a new IP in a saturated market and overly ambitious concepts to budget constraints, constant publisher pressures, and unrealistic expectations. At times, it’s even more complicated than all of that combined, so it’s easy to forget how fortunate many games are to even see the light of day.
