AEnergy efficiency upgrades not only help you save energy, but can make your home more comfortable. If you find yourself returning to the thermostat in the winter or unable to cool off on summer days, your home needs an efficiency upgrade. Here are some areas to focus on. Air sealing, a lesser-known efficiency upgrade, keeps air from entering and exiting the home through cracks and gaps.

OFTEN, WHILE READING a handwritten note from Mark Keller—usually coupled with one of his pencil sketches—I’m reminded of Henry David Thoreau’s 19th century essays and other works from his alone-in-the-woods-days on the shore of Walden Pond. Although Thoreau spent two years and two months on Walden, Mark Keller has spent 30 years on Rough Creek in Breckinridge County, living his own near-hermit life of simplicity. Keller, too, is a naturalist, essayist, philosopher and poet.

Having fished for largemouth bass for many years as a boy in Florida, I knew how big they grew there. I was excited to hear about this release program, and hoped to land some giant bass here in Kentucky. Kentucky Lake was, and still is, a great fishery for both largemouth and smallmouth bass.
