Abstract Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by chronic, symmetric polyarticular synovitis, with a global prevalence of approximately 0.5%-1%. Its pathogenesis involves a complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors, as well as abnormal immune activation. RA patients face a significantly increased risk of cardiovascular disease, with atherosclerosis (AS) and its complications being the leading cause of mortality.

1 Background Diabetes mellitus is a global metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia, primarily arising from insulin secretion deficiency due to pancreatic β-cell dysfunction and insulin resistance in peripheral tissues (1). According to the latest data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the global diabetic population exceeds 537 million and is projected to rise to 783 million by 2045, with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) accounting for over 90% of cases (2).
