What was your first job as a journalist?
For a proper outlet, writing about the collapse of Francafrique for The Cradle.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
As a child, I have been considering buying one though.
How is social media changing news?
A much wider array of people can spread nonsense with no accountability, but we can trash talk politicians at least.

Mallard Filmore, I suppose.

These days, not much.

Physical books I own, search engines, and Google Maps.

Who do you wish followed you?
I don't particularly care, plenty of great journalists follow me.
Why did you become a journalist?
No good reason, couldn't make my newsletter grow fast enough and people started paying me.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No, my wife worked for hers though and talks about it all the time.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My large expose on the background of Zaka that I got out only 11 days after 10/7.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Consume enormous amounts of shitty mainstream media with a critical eye.
When's the best time to pitch you?
I cover stories all over the world and don't sleep next to my phone, any time is fine.

People don't generally pitch things to me.

What's your favorite drink?
Yerba mate. Coffee.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Reading a book that is most likely sitting on my closed laptop.

I don't know, I read more things that I hate than that I like.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Apparently people didn't understand how USAID functions until earlier this year. Also everything about Africa.
