Can incorporating GenAI chatbots into L2 writing instruction promote student agency and writing performance? Insights from a mixed-methods quasi-experimental study
Abstract We conducted a mixed-methods quasi-experimental research design to examine the effects of incorporating GenAI into L2 writing instruction on Chinese university English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ agency and writing performance over the writing course of an academic semester.

Traceless sortase ligation for chemical protein synthesis
Abstract Sortase-mediated ligation has emerged as a prominent method for chemical protein synthesis, yet its application is hindered by several inherent constraints, including strict sequence and chirality specificity, reaction reversibility and ligation scars left on the product. Here we report a traceless sortase ligation (TSL) method to overcome these limitations.

Intrinsically stretchable complementary circuits based on direct photo-patternable polymer semiconductors
Abstract Intrinsically stretchable electronics have shown potential in applications ranging from wearable health monitors to soft robotics. However, despite recent developments in material design, processing techniques and bio-integration, the fabrication of complementary circuits using scalable methods remains challenging. Here we report intrinsically stretchable organic complementary circuits that are solution processed and based on direct photo-patternable polymer semiconductors.

Skin-like drift-free biosensors with stretchable diode-connected organic field-effect transistors - Nature Electronics
Abstract Biosensors based on organic field-effect transistors can offer mechanical flexibility, stretchability and operational stability for conformal on-skin monitoring. However, bending, stretching, moisture and temperature changes can lead to signal artefacts and drifts. Here we report skin-like drift-free biosensors based on stretchable diode-connected organic field-effect transistors.
High-density soft bioelectronic fibres for multimodal sensing and stimulation - Nature
Abstract There is an increasing demand for multimodal sensing and stimulation bioelectronic fibres for both research and clinical applications1,2. However, existing fibres suffer from high rigidity, low component layout precision, limited functionality and low density of active components.
Estimation of Out-of-Sample Sharpe Ratio for High Dimensional Portfolio Optimization
Abstract Portfolio optimization aims at constructing a realistic portfolio with significant out-of-sample performance, which is typically measured by the out-of-sample Sharpe ratio. However, due to in-sample optimism, it is inappropriate to use the in-sample estimated covariance to evaluate the out-of-sample Sharpe, especially in the high dimensional settings.

A giant disk galaxy two billion years after the Big Bang - Nature Astronomy
Abstract Observational studies have shown that galaxy disks were already in place in the first few billion years of the Universe. The early disks detected so far, with typical half-light radii of 3 kpc at stellar masses around 1011 M⊙ for redshift z ≈ 3, are significantly smaller than today’s disks with similar masses, which is in agreement with expectations from current galaxy models.

Advancing cancer therapy with heptamethine carbocyanine dye-conjugated radionuclide drug
Advancing cancer therapy with heptamethine carbocyanine dye-conjugated radionuclide drug Malignant tumors pose substantial treatment challenges due to their heterogeneity, metastatic potential, and therapeutic resistance, underscoring the urgent need for more effective treatment options. This study developed and characterized a novel radionuclide drug conjugate (RDC) employing a tumor-targeting heptamethine carbocyanine dye (DZ) for its high specificity and favorable safety profile.
High-speed 3D measurement using the kinoform array and light source shift
A new, to the best of our knowledge, fringe projector using the kinoform is proposed in this Letter. The kinoform array makes the hologram easy to manufacture, and the phase shift is realized by light source shift. The fringes can be shifted at a high speed due to the high-speed switch of the light source. An active binocular 3D measurement system using the proposed projector is demonstrated, and a binocular matching algorithm from coarse to fine using a laser speckle and fringe phase is proposed.

Neuromorphic sensorimotor loop embodied by monolithically integrated, low-voltage, soft e-skin
Editor’s summary Our skin provides a protective layer for our bodies, but it also enables detailed sensory feedback and soft interactions with our surroundings. Wang et al. devised a prosthetic electronic skin that incorporates organic semiconductor transistors and has no rigid components, thus mimicking the mechanical aspects of real skin (see the Perspective by Sekitani).
