Edge-State-induced Magnetism in two-dimensional Hematene
Edge-State-induced Magnetism in two-dimensional Hematene Junjie Shi, Weiwei Ren, Xiaoyan Ren, Yuan Yuan Shang, Rui Pang and Shunfang Li Abstract Recently, monolayer hematite termed hematene (FeO2) was exfoliated from its non-van der Waals bulk counterpart (α-Fe2O3), and found to prefer ferromagnetic ordering around room temperature. However, the underlying mechanism of its room temperature ferromagnetism has not been convincingly established.
A Triboelectric Nanogenerator Exploiting the Bernoulli Effect for Scavenging Wind Energy
Highlights A triboelectric nanogenerator exploiting the Bernoulli effect for wind harvesting The B-TENG works with low flutter wind velocity and high conversion efficiency The B-TENG can scavenge wind in any direction in an outdoor environment Summary Wind energy is one of the most cost-effective energy sources available today. Some techniques have been developed to scavenge wind energy, but making use of lower flutter velocity while maintaining high conversion efficiency remains challenging.
Parent-offspring conflict over mate choice: An experimental study in China
Both parents and offspring have evolved mating preferences that enable them to select mates and children‐in‐law to maximize their inclusive fitness. The theory of parent–offspring conflict predicts that preferences for potential mates may differ between parents and offspring: individuals are expected to value biological quality more in their own mates than in their offspring's mates and to value investment potential more in their offspring's mates than in their own mates.
