Tania Richard is an accomplished actor, playwright, author and inspirational speaker. She and her family live in Evanston. She is in rehearsals preparing for the world premiere on Sept. 4 of her one-woman show, Black Girl from a White Suburb, at the American Blues Theater in Chicago. It’s based on her memoir of the same name. The suburb in question is Western Springs, Illinois, where Richard grew up.

Rabbi Rachel Weiss grew up in the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation at 303 Dodge Ave. She first attended Hebrew religious school at JRC when she was 9 and she later was married in the old JRC building. So, when Weiss was selected to be the rabbi of JRC in 2016, it was a full circle moment for both Weiss and JRC. Friday night was the final lakefront Shabbat (sabbath) service of 2026.

Vanessa Antonio and her four sons with Flor. Like Odysseus, Flor the chihuahua made it home after a long journey. The hardy pup had been missing for 12 years, her owner Vanessa Antonio said the dog was taken out of her car while it was parked in Chicago. With luck, some electronic detective work and generous volunteers at two animal shelters in two states, the little canine was returned to her owner’s arms on Wednesday night.
