We do not know if, when, or how the lemming-like rush to propagate the experimental and non-evidence based practice of pediatric sex trait modification will be brought to heel.

Psychologists are not legally required to affirm the gender identities of their patients
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in California who provides psychoanalytic psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults. Over the past few years, my practice has been dedicated to adolescents and young adults suffering from distress related to their sexed bodies and/or who identify as trans.

On the Road With Billboard Chris
Here's a short documentary I shot with a little handheld camera and built-in mic while on the road with Billboard Chris in September 2022.
What is Chris Thinking?
I anticipate that more than a few of my readers will not share in the high esteem in which the author of this guest post holds the MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes. They will sneer at the naive hope undergirding her sincere appeals that Hayes begin engaging in good faith with the mounting evidence that pediatric transition is an ongoing medical scandal that the United States is lagging far behind its more enlightened Social Democratic European peer nations in bringing to heel.
Year Zero Book Club Commencing Soon
I have been meaning to launch a book club for a while and now that I am engrossed in J. Anthony Lukas’ Common Ground: A Turbulent Decade in the Lives of Three American Families,I figured it would be a good time to invite paid subscribers to read alongside me. The linked wikiPedia page briefly summarizes the book, which traces the paths of three Boston families through the racial turmoil of the 1970’s.
"If I was a trans woman, I would not be pushing for rapists to be in women’s prisons. That is the worst thing we could do. Also going after very young children."
The podcast sent out yesterday was recorded in the lobby of a hotel at Genspect conference at Killarney, Ireland in May. I didn’t have my Lavaliere microphone with me and so you can hear some music and crosstalk in the background, which may be a distraction for some. Biggs is also a very fast talker, so there are certain moments where he is not entirely audible. Some commenters have noted these defects. In deference to this concern, I am making this transcript available to all.

Michael Biggs is Associate Professor of Sociology at Oxford University and the author of a series of important studies of pediatric gender medicine in the UK. The studies created much of the evidentiary foundation now on the academic record about the still very young field of pediatric gender medicine today.

"I got on the case. I saw the documents. I saw the internal Harvard reports where it shows that they knew they were discriminating against Asians from the get go. “
For the visual learners in the Year Zero audience, we have a video version of yesterday’s podcast. “So Will calls me in April 2018. And he says, ‘we're gonna have to try this case, my firm hasn't really tried any cases…And I need help. I don't know what to do. We’ve got these big firm lawyers on the other side, and the case is gonna go to trial. “ "And I said, ‘Well, let me give you some names as to people that might help.’ I didn't volunteer myself.
"I don't want to go down in history as the guy who killed affirmative action. I actually said that to him. "
Back in 2018, Adam Mortara repeatedly told Massachusetts District Court Judge Allison Burroughs that the case he was arguing sought to prove that Harvard had discriminated against Asian Americans, not to end the use of racial preferences in college admissions. Last week, a 6-3 majority of the Supreme Court made scant reference to the underlying district court case in the course of ruling that the use of race as a factor in college admissions was constitutionally impermissible.
The Successor Theology Rising
I have to confess that the firehose of daily content with which I’ve been engaged online has overwhelmed my capacity to ingest and process the volatile emissions flooding the culture. I have a dozen drafts in various stages of readiness and have been struggling to bring any of them to completion. I do have to take some time to remove myself from the firehose and do nothing but think and write and produce the sustained argument and exposition that the ongoing coup requires.
"We're going to put together our own guide, our own authoritative set of guidance for how to conceptualize and treat gender dysphoria, because someone has to step up and challenge these people."
Joseph Burgo is a psychoanalyst and author and a co-director of Genspect, an organization representing thousands of parents of children caught up in the ongoing transgender social contagion. The organizatioin now seeks to supplant the World Professional Association of Transgender Health as an authoritative source of guidance for how to deal with gender dysphoric youth.

The Social-Imperial State

Meanwhile,Arnold Klinghas a thoughtful response to Essay 19—Lorenzo’s first piece on bureaucratic pathologies—over at his place. Taught For America
My experience is similar.
Taught For America
The pseudonymous author of the following diary was by his own account a white male from a privileged background with a savior complex when he joined Teach for America out of college in 2008. I hesitate to call the experience he recounts here — of instantaneous and total defeat by a vast social breakdown far beyond the ken of any 24-year old to stem — the modal experience of the idealistic young people who joined the program.
Sex Differences in Outcome and Prescribing Practice in ST-elevation MI Patients with Multivessel Disease and Incomplete Revascularisation
Women have a poorer prognosis following ST-elevation MI (STEMI) than men.1–7 Although sex-based differences in post-STEMI outcome are well documented, the reasons for these poorer outcomes in women are less well defined, which limits our ability to close this sex-based outcome gap. The role played by differences in the anatomical complexity of coronary artery disease or by multivessel disease (MVD) in sex-based outcome differences at long-term follow-up is not well established.

Stunning and Brave New World
Today’s post inaugurates a series of vignettes I’ve been collecting, all by speaking with the parents of former and current trans-identified youths to paint a portrait of American childhood in the age of Queer Normativity education. Since 2019, American schools — its librarians, teachers, and social workers — have proven that in fact you can overturn millions of years of primate evolution through the repetition of copypasta for three years.
The Good Marxist
Today’s guest post, by a pseudonymous humanities professor employed at a major research institution somewhere in America, airs grievances and records a descent into disillusion familiar to most who have entered the humanities in a time of austerity and decline.
Queer Normative Elementary Schooling in America
I don’t know how many schools use the Black Lives Matter Coloring Book, but it is in wide circulation in both public and private schools across America. This video tweeted by the Washington DC Chancellor of Schools, which chronicles the journey of the district he leads to becoming a “whole-child, anti-racist school district” shows its pages posted on the wall of an elementary school classroom.
The Glass Delusion and Transgenderism:
Today’s guest post by a pseudonymous history professor teaching somewhere in the United States, draws a parallel between a delusion spread through social contagion from the 15th to the 17th century in Europe borne aloft by new communications technology, and a new one spreading today on the wings of new communication technology - a novel way of being entirely dependent on synthetic hormones, cosmetic surgery, and the Internet.
"Nobody wants to meet with me. Nobody came to me and say, 'I'm sorry. We messed up. We made a mistake.' Nobody."
"It is part of the Twilight Zone-like unreality into which this issue has plunged much of the Western world that a mother telling the story of her daughter’s suicide while under the influence of cross-sex hormones — crucially, in her mother’s account, doled out in lieu of counseling to address underlying mental health difficulties — is seen by the forces aligned with the right-thinking in our society as a purveyor of hate and harm.
"I realized that no matter what I would have done -- had I got into full surgery on my face, removal of my genitals -- (I already had breast implants by then), I would have never been a woman."
Detransitioner Abel Garcia addresses protesters at the First Do No Harm rally of groups calling on the American Academy of Pediatrics to reverse course on its embrace of pediatric gender affirming care. Abel Garcia received a prescription for estrogen at his very first visit to a gender clinician at the age of 19.
"We are setting up the lawsuits against the AAP and all these societies. We're going to hold them all to account. We have an army of attorneys waiting to do this."
Erin Friday organized the October protest of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a lawyer living in Marin County whose daughter began identifying as a trans male during covid and was assigned a cross-gendered name and pronoun by her teachers without her mother’s knowledge of consent. Friday quit her job and spent a year getting her daughter out of the gender cult into which she had been first inculcated by an older teenaged girl she met on the Internet.

The Queer Normative Future Is Already Here
Toddler with teddy bear in bondage gear, Balenciaga ad. What follows is the second part of a multi-part series of memoirs about the sexual constitution as premises and motives drawn from Queer Theory are both normalized and acquire disciplinary power throughout American bourgeois culture. I expect to integrate these essays into a larger work that includes memoir, theory, and cultural history.
The High Cost of Gender Apostasy
A family court stripped Jeannette Cooper of custody and visitation rights to her trans-identifying daughter in 2019. In order to restore her access, Cooper must affirm her daughter’s transgender identity. Since 2019, Cooper has refused to comply with this directive and has therefore spent a total of eight and a half hours with her over the last three years.
"Every forward step in my transition at first brought elation, but it was ephemeral. As the joy faded, I was encouraged to take the next step. I was not only a cash cow, I was a willing disciple."
Scott Newgent is a 47-year old woman who underwent a series of surgeries at the age of 42. She is the author of the following striking passage from a Newsweek article published in 2021: “I am a 48-year-old transgender man. I was thrilled when the medical community told me six years ago that I could change from a woman to a man. I was informed about all the wonderful things that would happen due to medical transition, but all the negatives were glossed over.
I felt like she was setting me and her father up as the enemy of our child. She was the savior who was going to come in and save our daughter from us.
Jennifer, who asked to be identified by her first name only, talks about discovering the efforts by her daughter’s public school teacher and the psychologist to which her daughter was referred by the school to encourage her child to embrace a transgender male identification. Full transcript follows. Mon, Nov 7, 2022 .
"I needed love. I needed support. I needed somebody to hear me out and not just tell me what I wanted to hear."
Chloe Cole socially transitioned at the age of 12, went on puberty blockers at 13, and had a “gender-affirming” double mastectomy at 15. She passed so successfully as a boy that most of her peers at school did not know she was transgender. While watching a video in class about Harlow’s studies of rhesus monkeys, which demonstrated the importance of the maternal bond to proper infant psychological development, she began to think about herself in relation to maternity for the very first time.
A Terrible Authority Inscribed Into Their Own Flesh
I first saw Abel Garcia as he was tenderly embracing a matronly, brown-skinned woman before escorting her across the street. They walked from the hotel where the DO NO HARM protesters had first convened to the sidewalk where a couple dozen of them donned their signs in silent protest of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
"If you're not willing to risk your job, your relationships, your friendships, if you're not willing to risk that to protect children from medical experimentation -- what would motivate you?
I interviewed Erin Brewer at the protest of the American Academy of Pediatrics by a consortium of parent groups that oppose the medicalization of trans-identifying children. Brewer was a “Trans Kid” in an age before pediatric transition was a possibility, back in 1973 when her reaction to a sexual trauma — a rape by two men in a public bathroom, while one held a knife to her brother’s neck — took the form of identification as a boy.
Apostate From Institutional Consensus And On Behalf of Normative, Evidence Based Practice
It matters perhaps more than it should to the issue in which she has come to be embroiled that Dr. Julia Mason looks like a minor character on Portlandia.
Witness To A Medicalized Social Contagion
Julia Mason is a co-sponsor of Resolution 27, calling on the American Academy of Pediatrics to revisit its 2018 guidance on pediatric gender care and undertake a comprehensive review of the evidence on pediatric gender-affirming care. I interviewed her the night before the Do No Harm protest. I’ll be turning this interview into a short feature story available for free. As always, paid subscribers have access to the full video and eventually the full transcript to the interview.
Preface to a Multi-Volume Review of a Work of Christian Apologia
The documentary Dysconnected begins with the image of a young person in the midst of a solitary rapture. The young person is alone in a teenager's bedroom, addressing a webcam, speaking to networked multitude of potentially infinite size that the Internet has granted every one of its users the means to seek and the most engaging of its users the means to obtain.
Butch Lesbian Desister and Christian Homeschooling Mother Agree That No One Is Born in the Wrong Body
I didn’t have enough time to ask all the questions I wanted and will be following up with both of these women to go in greater depth into each of their respective stories. But I’m glad I caught a glimpse of them together here, as their dynamic is charming. Joey Brite witnessed the end of the Bay Area lesbian community as its members were one by one recru… Watch with a 7-day free trial Subscribe to Year Zero to watch this video and get 7 days of free access to the full post archives.
