With Connecticut scandals making media headlines in the last month, I have a sudden distrust of public officials and our public institutions. From investigations into former New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart and my university system’s ongoing issues, I am disheartened and frustrated as a taxpayer and educator. As a political romantic, I believe we should all engage in the policymaking process. This goes beyond voters electing officials and officials making decisions.

I often thought the same of our state officials, mostly because I teach state and local government and my parents were state and local officials. Still, many of politico friends know I try to stay clear of endorsing candidates and I rarely engage in direct campaigns.

Bronin ultimately out-fundraised Larson, which is rare against a longtime lawmaker. He also proved successful at gaining a majority of delegates at the state Democratic Party convention this week, which is another rare moment. Of course, a certain former Greenwich selectman did the same against longtime U.S Sen. Joe Liberman in 2006 but Ned Lamont lost the general election. He was elected governor in 2018 and now seeks a third term as state Rep.
