What was your first job as a journalist?

Staff writer for The Knight at my high school, St. Augustine High School. First pro job: Times-Picayune internship. First job: Courier-Post.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#YouLie is funny, not funny.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I like subject line-specific emails with basic Who, What, When, Why and How info. Even better with links. I'll email or call if interested.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

People are best! I use our media organization email, telephone as well as social media. Google, Bing, duckduck work, too.

What's your favorite social network?

I just LOVE Facebook, mostly because that's where most of my family, friends, readers, viewers and peekers are. I like Twitter, Instagram.

Why did you become a journalist?

I didn't think i was going to change the world, but my desire to tell good stories and to tell the truth has led to some changes. I like that

When's the best time to pitch you?

Any time, via EMAIL. With a clear, specific subject line and knowledge of my media outlet and what i do.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Directed specifically to me. Written based on what I cover, giving me reasons I might want to CONSIDER the option, asking what else is needed

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

I don't use the word "hate" lightly. I hate it when I get a pitch to someone who is not me and for something that I clearly don't care about.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

People often think that I write columns about a certain, specific, prescribed and approved list. I do not.
