INTRODUCTION Wolbachia, a genus of maternally transmitted Gram-negative bacteria, is estimated to infect approximately 20–30% of insect species globally, with Lepidoptera exhibiting some of the highest infection rates among arthropods, approximately 80% of species and one-fourth to one-third of individuals infected (Ahmed, Araujo-Jnr, et al., 2015; Ilinsky & Kosterin, 2017; Vancaester & Blaxter, 2023; Weinert et al., 2015).
