Dawn-dusk Asymmetrical Distribution of Saturn’s Cusp
Abstract Saturn’s magnetosphere, shaped by solar wind interaction with its dipole field, differs from Earth’s due to faster rotation and Enceladus’s internal plasma sources. An ongoing focus of investigation is how the internal plasma sources and rapid rotation result in a different global magnetospheric configuration. The magnetospheric cusp, a crucial interaction region between solar wind and planetary magnetic field, serves as an indicator of global magnetic configuration.
Explainable AI for engineering design: A unified approach of systems engineering and component-based deep learning demonstrated by energy-efficient building design
Data-driven models assist in complex engineering design tasks and are able to sufficiently capture these complexities. Moreover, the computational power required to create models is no longer a limiting factor. Therefore, numerous applications exist in engineering-related domains. Predicting the energy demand of buildings [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] is important because data-driven models avoid the complex modeling and high computational load required for thermal simulations.
OC20.05: A randomised controlled trial in China: microwave ablation versus radiofrequency ablation for fetal reduction in monochorionic twin pregnancies - Zhai - 2024 - Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology - Wiley Online Library
Objectives Using a non-inferiority randomised controlled trial to compare the safety and efficacy of microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in selective reduction of complex monochorionic twin pregnancies. Methods This was a non-inferiority randomised controlled trial conducted from May 2019 to August 2021 at the Third Hospital of Peking University.

China’s first mission to Mars
As the Tianwen-1 spacecraft is scheduled for launch in late July or early August, the mission chief scientist and his team provide an overview focusing on the scientific objectives and instrumentation of China’s first Mars mission. Among the eight planets in the Solar System, Mars is the most similar to Earth and is also close by. It therefore naturally becomes a high-priority target for space exploration.
Thermally Stable Narrow-Band Green-Emitting Phosphor MgAl2O4:Mn2+ toward Wide Color Gamut Backlight Display Application
Thermally Stable Narrow-Band Green-Emitting Phosphor MgAl2O4:Mn2+ toward Wide Color Gamut Backlight Display Application The discovery of stable narrow-band green emitting phosphor suitable for blue InGaN chip excitation is crucial to improve the color gamut of the phosphor converted backlighting device. However, it is a great challenge.

Enhanced second harmonic generation in individual barium titanate nanoparticles driven by Mie resonances
Although previous designs of nonlinear optical (NLO) nanostructures have focused on photonic crystals and metal plasmonic nanostructures, complex structure, large ohmic loss and Joule heating greatly hinder their practical applications. Beyond photonic crystals and metal plasmonic nanostructures, all-dielectric materials (ADMs) bring new ways to generate NLO behavior in subwavelength scales.
A prominent glycyl radical enzyme in human gut microbiomes metabolizes trans-4-hydroxy-l-proline
The big challenge posed by the microbiota living in or on humans is working out what they do for us. Microorganisms generate large quantities of peptides and proteins that may have profound systemic effects on the host. Levin et al. took microbial metagenome data and used a combination of bioinformatic tools to generate a network that clusters sequences of enzymes sharing similar biological functions (see the Perspective by Glasner).
Inhibition of adipose tissue PPARγ prevents increased adipocyte expansion after lipectomy and exacerbates a glucose-intolerant phenotype
Adipose tissue plays a fundamental role in glucose homeostasis. For example, fat removal (lipectomy, LipX) in lean mice, resulting in a compensatory 50% increase in total fat mass, is associated with significant improvement in glucose tolerance. This study was designed to further examine the link between fat removal, adipose tissue compensation and glucose homeostasis using a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ? (PPAR ?; activator of adipogenesis) knockout mouse. The study involved PPAR?

Does urban sprawl hold down upward mobility?
Contrary to the general perception, the United States has a much more class-bound society than other wealthy countries. The chance of upward mobility for Americans is just half that of the citizens of the Denmark and many other European countries.
