Vortex Stability in the Thermal Quasi-Geostrophic Dynamics
This version is not peer-reviewed. Xavier Carton *,Yan Barabinot,Guillaume Roullet Xavier Carton *,Yan Barabinot,Guillaume Roullet This version is not peer-reviewed. The stability of a circular vortex is studied in the thermal quasi-geostrophic (TQG) model. Several radial distributions of vorticity and of buoyancy (temperature) are considered for the mean flow. First, the linear stability of these vortices is addressed.
Defining Mesoscale Eddies Boundaries From In‐Situ Data and a Theoretical Framework
1 Introduction Mesoscale eddies are ubiquitous in the ocean and have been observed by satellite and sparse in-situ measurements for several decades. They are defined as relatively long-lived horizontal recirculations of seawater on a spatial scale close to one or a few deformation radii and smaller than the Rhines scale (Rhines, 1975).
