Introduction The thymus provides an environment for development of T cells. Thymic epithelial cells (TECs) are essential for development and selection of thymic T cells by presenting self-antigens and expressing some cytokines and signaling molecules (1). TECs are largely divided into two types based on localization: cortical TECs (cTECs) and medullary TECs (mTECs).
