When expressive humanoid robots are awkward, people become wary – new brain study Original
People become more suspicious of a humanoid robot that makes errors, especially when the robot is an expressive conversation partner. In our new study published in the journal Science Robotics, we had 50 people hold conversations and make joint decisions with the commercial humanoid robot Pepper, which is designed to be expressive and recognize emotions. Sometimes we had the robot give sound advice.

Multilevel dynamics of the brain, hormones, mind, and behavior in social human-robot interaction
Abstract INTRODUCTION RESULTS DISCUSSION MATERIALS AND METHODS Acknowledgments Supplementary Materials REFERENCES AND NOTES Information & Authors Metrics & Citations View Options References Figures Tables Media Share Abstract As robots enter homes, workplaces, and health care settings, sustaining trust during social interaction becomes a central challenge for human-robot interaction.
Ultra-wideband radar to measure in vivo muscle forces
Abstract Supplementary Materials REFERENCES AND NOTES Information & Authors Metrics & Citations Check Access References Figures Tables Media Share Abstract Accurate measures of muscle forces are critical for engineers, clinicians, and biomechanists, yet direct measurement is highly invasive, and current estimation methods remain limited in accuracy.
Advances, challenges, and opportunities for legged robots
Abstract REFERENCES AND NOTES Information & Authors Metrics & Citations Check Access References Figures Tables Media Share Abstract Humanoid and quadrupedal robots have the potential to revolutionize the way we work, interact, and coexist with intelligent machines. To understand their effects on society and how they can enable scientific discovery, we assess the current capabilities of these systems along hardware, locomotion, autonomy, data, and applications.

Bioinspired multimodal robotics
Abstract REFERENCES AND NOTES Information & Authors Metrics & Citations Check Access References Figures Tables Media Share Abstract To survive in dynamic and unstructured environments, animals have developed extraordinary multimodal locomotion capabilities. This biological insight drives the innovation of bioinspired multimodal robots, which are defined as robotic systems integrating and transitioning between two or more distinct modes of bioinspired locomotion.
