The effects of mechanical loading (e.g., tie splitting, plate cutting) and the decay associated with weathering can cause wood ties to degrade over time and, in turn, perform their intended function less effectively. Previous research1-4indicated mechanical degradation is both the primary failure mode and the main reason for the replacement of mainline wood ties. Environmental decay is the foremost reason for wood tie replacement on low-traffic lines.

Abstract Doxorubicin (Dox) resistance severely limits therapeutic efficacy in breast cancer, yet the epigenetic mechanisms linking cell-cycle control to therapy-induced cell death remain unclear. Here, we identify the histone acetyltransferase KAT8 as a critical driver of Dox resistance. Transcriptomic analysis of neoadjuvant cohorts revealed elevated KAT8 expression in residual disease (RD) tumors, which was validated in an independent cohort of 95 patients.
