Betsy Forbis: Mother Nature can’t put a damper on Sip & Stroll
Well, Mother Nature certainly made sure our 10th annual Sip & Stroll was memorable! Despite an incredibly rainy Thursday evening, just over 120 people grabbed their umbrellas, raincoats and friends and headed out to support 23 participating York businesses for Sip & Stroll. The feedback we received throughout the evening was SO positive. Each participating business put its own spin on its stop, and the variety from location to location made the night so much fun.

York Ag Expo Canceled
YORK- 2021’s York Ag Expo is canceled. Due to the uncertainty of the pandemic and the restrictions this could impose on the show itself, we felt it would be best to cancel 2021’s York Ag Expo. We are saddened and frustrated we had to make this call but we feel it’s the right decision given all the components involved. The York Ag Expo Committee wants to always provide a quality show and one that holds value for not only the exhibitors and the attendees but the community as well.

On Tuesday, they had the opportunity to visit with Jill Koch from York General and on Wednesday, Taylor Siebert with Striv came to York’s Kilgore Memorial Library to share his story and that of his company based in Henderson. When you hire someone there are always so many steps that need to take place. Knowing what paperwork to collect, who needs to maintain it and how to file it with the proper agencies is something that makes us all anxious from time to time. Because this topic is so important to so many, York Chamber is once again partnering with York County Development for a Lunch and Learn that is sure to benefit companies regardless of your business.

The Downtown Revitalization (DTR) grant process has been quietly advancing. Over the past few months, property owners have been submitting their applications to the DTR Committee. The committee reviewed all the applications and met with property owners to make sure their applications were ready for review at the state level.

Thank you all for helping York celebrate our country’s independence this past Tuesday. The show was spectacular and The Big Bang Shoot Team never disappoints. Not only am I thankful for those that attended the show, but I am extremely grateful for those that partner with us financially and in kind to make this event happen. As we close one event in July, we gear up for yet another day of fun.Balloon Day, York’s Celebration of Summer will be Saturday, July 21.

I cannot believe that we are almost finished with the month of May. With all of the graduations and state tournaments for all of the area schools finishing up, I am sure everyone is ready to get their summer breaks underway. While families begin their travels, contractors working with the City of York and the county offices will start their projects. Residents will notice on the courthouse lawn more stakes and construction markers. The courthouse expansion will be a welcome addition to the facility.

Spring has finally arrived and summer will be here before we know it. All of us at the Chamber have been wrapping up the spring activities and working on getting events together for the summer months. With the summer coming soon, the various construction projects will begin. There have been surveyors working along the north side of the courthouse and we are beginning to see paint markings on the grass. The water main project is scheduled to begin very soon as well.

Last night was a wonderful evening with several hundred people strolling through Downtown York. There were 33 businesses that took part in the 2018 Sip & Stroll. In a time when we are all rushing to get everything we need for ourselves and our families, rarely is time taken to slow down and get to know our local professionals and retailers. Last night was definitely the time for that.
