Nebraska football is set for yet another Friday night showdown against Illinois. For the fifth year in a row, the Huskers will be playing a game on Friday night. This time, they will be squaring off against Illinois on Friday, November 6. Kickoff time is slated for 7 p.m. Central Time. The news was announced, by happenstance, on Friday morning. The Huskers and Illini were originally scheduled to face off against each other on Saturday, November 7 in Champaign.

Nebraska football saw its star player from the 2025 season officially head to the pros when running back Emmett Johnson was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2026 NFL Draft. Johnson, a fifth-round pick by the Chiefs on Saturday, officially gave the Nebraska football program at least one player selected in 25 of the last 27 drafts – including six of the last seven – and he is Nebraska’s third NFL draftee of the Matt Rhule Era.

Former Nebraska football star running back Emmett Johnson is headed to his new home. And it’s one that he’s plenty familiar with and one where Husker fans won’t have to travel very far if they want to see him in action. Johnson, who experienced his breakout season in 2025 as the centerpiece of the Huskers’ offense, was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft (No. 161 overall) on Saturday afternoon.
