Abstract In AI-driven metamaterials discovery, designing metasurfaces requires extrapolation to unexplored performance regimes to discover new structures. Here we introduce MetaAI, a physics-aware current-diffusion framework that synergizes spatial topologies and frequency-domain responses to discover non-intuitive metasurface architectures.

Abstract Spectral imaging is a critical technology for analysing the spectral and spatial information of input light signals for both scientific research and industrial uses. Traditional imaging systems, typically incorporating spectrometers with bulky optical components and moving mechanical parts, hinder miniaturization and on-chip integration, which is crucial for in situ spectroscopy and high-speed spectral imaging.

Abstract 3D in-substrate integration of optical functionalities fully utilizes the vertical dimension of space and is valuable for advancing next-generation integrated optoelectronics. However, as a key optical effect, optical dispersion remains unavailable to be tailored at the microscale in 3D. We introduce artificial dispersive microregions in lithium niobate crystals to engineer free-space ultra-broadband optical dispersion.
