Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a sports reporter and columnist.

How is social media changing news?

For the worse. Always for the worse.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means telling uncomfortable but verified truths.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

As a podcast producer, I use several DAWs. That includes Adobe Audition, Hindenburg Journalist Pro, and Descript.

Why did you become a journalist?

At first, because I loved sports and I wanted to continue that passion. But gradually it became because I love serving the community.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Very briefly. I took pretty terrible pictures on an even worse camera.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I wrote about how the media demonized Sean Taylor when he was the victim of a home invasion robbery. It was a turning point.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The Wall Street Journal (minus the opinion section).

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

In audio, people tend to believe that there isn't any journalistic rigor in what we do. But standards and ethics matter greatly.
