Man's remains lost in ocean after being sent to space for life-long dream

Steve Nelson, a man from Fuquay-Varina, had one wish: to go to outer space. Nelson wasn’t a billionaire or an astronaut, so blasting beyond the Earth’s atmosphere wasn’t something in the cards in his lifetime. Nelson passed away in 2023 after many years of heart and kidney issues caused by diabetes. His family told WRAL News that Nelson was a huge science fiction fan, from Star Wars to Star Trek, he dreamed of being among the stars, even joking that aliens from Area 51 abducted him.
