A playlist of 1960s tunes soundtracked the event. Dignitaries cut a 61-foot ribbon. Burlington Considers 15 Applicants for Police Chief

Burlington will sort through 15 applicants who want to be the city’s next chief of police and will use a 12-person hiring committee to pick the winning candidate, officials announced on Monday. The International Association of Chiefs of Police will help whittle the group down to five candidates before the 12-person hiring committee, which includes representatives from city government, city council, the police commission and community, choses two finalists.

After Decades, Burlington’s Champlain Parkway Officially Opens

Sixty-one years after Burlington’s Champlain Parkway was first conceived, city, state and federal officials celebrated the opening of the final section on Monday morning. Also known as the “Southern Connector,” the 2.8-mile parkway opens new access from Interstate 189 to Burlington’s South End. Officials say it will help alleviate traffic congestion on Shelburne Road while diverting traffic onto Pine Street.
