I am having trouble visualizing the circuit and whether the resistors are in parallel or series. Usually a circuit is drawn as a square with a path from+ to - on the power source. How could I draw this circuit and visualize it in that way 58.8 KB

Unfortunately, you will have to change the triac for some other device. The triac does not switch off until the current through it reaches zero, Isn’t that exactly what you want? If there is no current through the triac, there is no current through the inductor, and therefore no energy stored n it. Isn’t that when you would want it to switch?

I need the following to work. Is there a problem with using either combo of usb to serial chip? I am trying to build an automated tester to test another pcb that has a mcp2200 chip on it. so i'm thinking of using an mcp2200 and a tiny to send messages through the other pcb's usb port to test that it's working. this is for production, testing 100 boards a day. so i really just need to know if this following architecture will work:
