BEAUMONT — Sen. John Cornyn stopped in downtown Beaumont on a campaign swing that highlighted tax cuts he said will help working families and service industry employees. Cornyn toured Hearsay Gastro Lounge after meeting with local business leaders in Beaumont to discuss the Working Families Tax Cut Act, which he described as a law that benefits workers and families. He said the legislation prevented what he called a major tax increase for Texans.

Beaumont police, fire hope to add new kayak technology to aid in rescues

BEAUMONT — Southeast Texas waterways draw boaters and fishermen for recreation, but Beaumont police and fire officials say those same waters can turn dangerous, leading to lives lost and search-and-rescue missions in often murky conditions. Beaumont Fire Rescue and Beaumont Police are seeking City Council approval to pursue about $12,000 in grant funding from the Firehouse Sub Public Safety Foundation to buy four kayaks equipped with sonar.

First responders train in Beaumont to manage stress after disasters

BEAUMONT — First responders from across Southeast Texas and the Houston area gathered at the Beaumont Police Department’s Real-Time Crime Center to learn how to manage the stress that can follow emergencies such as school shootings and weather disasters. The training focused on Critical Incident Stress Management, a program aimed at helping police officers, EMTs and 911 dispatchers cope with the emotional toll of traumatic calls and major incidents.
