LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -- The Wisconsin DNR is reminding people that safety comes first as many Wisconsinites head out on the water this summer. Nearly 80% of all fatal boating incidents involve drowning. DNR officials are encouraging people to wear lifejackets at all times and said drowning can happen to even the most experienced swimmers. The DNR also said to limit the amount of alcohol consumed while out on the water.

ONALASKA (WKBT) -- Gundersen Health System employees are took the time to remember one of their former colleagues. Carol Wittemberg passed away in 2021 after her battle with breast cancer. An avid supporter of Steppin Out in Pink, her family, friends, and co-workers held a gathering at her memorial on Friday at the Onalaska Trail to promote the final push for early bird registration for the 2023 event. Carol's husband said that the event always held a special place in her heart.

ONALASKA (WKBT) -- On Saturday, the city of Onalaska will be hosting their "Celebrate Onalaska Festival." The event will be held at Onalaska's Van Riper Park and the Onalaska Omni Center. The festival will have live music, carnival rides and games, and fireworks to end the night. The event is free to the public. Click here for more information.
