The 2026 Western States 100 was pure magic, and it all culminated in the final 60 minutes of the race. The Western States 100 comes with a certain je ne sais quoi that makes it feel inherently special. The history, the costume-clad crowds, the 1,500 volunteers who make it all possible, the lottery that’s harder to win than getting into Harvard, the golden ticket system that entices the best ultrarunners in the world to try and earn a spot on the start line.
