Tracking daily attendance, records throughout the fair
KCCI is once again tracking daily attendance at the Iowa State Fair - Iowa's biggest event of the year. The 2025 Iowa State Fair will go down as the third-biggest of all time. The 2024 Iowa State Fair was the biggest in the fair's history, with 1,182,682 people going through the gates. That's 12,307 more than the previous record of 1,170,375 in 2019. Last year's fair, which drew 1,160,121, is third all-time.

A 22-year-old woman died in a crash Sunday afternoon north of Creston in Union County. According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, Amber Lacina was driving southbound around 5 p.m. on Iowa Highway 25 near 140th Street. Authorities say Lacina lost control of her 2018 Ford Focus, which crossed both lanes of traffic, entered the east ditch and rolled several times.

Someone who bought a Powerball ticket in Iowa missed a share of Wednesday night's massive jackpot by just one number. The ticket, purchased at a Casey's store in Clarion, matched four of the first five numbers — and the Powerball — to win $50,000, the Iowa Lottery wrote in a blog post Thursday morning.A player in California won the $1.765 billion jackpot, the second-largest lottery prize after rolling over for 36 consecutive drawings, according to the Associated Press.

Harry Stine's fortune continues to grow. The Iowa native and CEO of Stine Seed Co. in Adel is now worth $9.7 billion, according to Forbes 400 — a list of the 400 richest Americans. That's $2 billion more than he was worth at this time last year and nearly $4 billion more than five years ago. Stine, 81, is the richest Iowan and the 76th richest American, Forbes says, with Tesla and SpaceX head Elon Musk at the top with $251 billion.
