Embrace the silliness of Talk Like a Pirate Day — That's one of many jokes you may hear today, on "Talk Like A Pirate Day." it's one of those absolutely silly "holidays" that became popular thanks to a syndicated columnist and remains popular thanks to the internet. A more accurate name might be "Talk Like A Pirate Stereotype Day."

Socially Awkward Media: No-win situation edition — Sometimes no matter what you do on social media, you can't win. That's not entirely true; you can almost always find a way out without humiliation or a visit from law enforcement. But none of these people took the road more cautiously traveled.

Hashtag football: Twitter teams with the NFL — How can you sum up all the glory, pageantry and showmanship into a mere 140 characters? You can't of course. The term "suffers traumatic brain injury" takes up 30 characters all by itself. So it might seem odd that the online service offering live streaming of 10 Thursday night NFL games is, of all companies, Twitter.

Part of Apple’s big announcement is a push to get kids to learn coding — "Everyone can code." That's both a sales pitch and the name of Apple's education initiative, designed to teach computer programming to school children. Implicit in that message is that "everyone should code." And that is a matter of fierce debate.

Socially awkward media: Sexist troll and scary politicians edition — Comedian Louis C.K. famously said that there is no greater threat to women than men . Sadly, that may be true online as well as offline, as several news stories this week demonstrate: A 19-year-old from Lawrence, Kansas, was charged with harassing a blogger from New Zealand.

Create your own virtual art exhibit at the National Gallery — The National Gallery of Art is an amazing museum in our nation's capital. If you get the chance, I recommend you visit it in person. If you don't get the chance, then you can visit the National Gallery's website and browse its collection.

Data project documents sexual harassment in Egypt — One of the most disturbing aspects of the Arab Spring as it unfolded in Egypt was the amount of sexual harassment that took place at Tahrir Square, the site of mass protests. In one night, after the toppling of then-President Mohamed Morsi, more than 80 women were harassed, raped or otherwise sexually assaulted , the Guardian reported in 2013.

Adam Richter: When the protest distracts from the issue | Reading Eagle - NEWS — Social media is in a lather over whether an NFL player should stand for the national anthem. We should instead talk about why he doesn't.
