When I sat down to write this piece, I’d made a mental note that it wouldn’t be about AI. Then on Saturday, Google said its artificial intelligence model Gemini had accessed the internet and hacked three companies in May. In one case, Gemini guessed passwords. In two other cases, it found credentials in public repositories and used them to gain access. All Gemini needed was an internet connection, a few exposed credentials, and an instruction to keep looking.

Applied Materials will invest $5 billion in India over the next decade as part of a broader push to deepen semiconductor R&D and integrate the country more closely into the global chip supply chain. Announcing the plan at SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi, Dr Prabu Raja, President of Semiconductor Products Group at Applied Materials, said the company plans to build a 140-acre advanced semiconductor research park, grow its India-based supply-chain capacity 10X, and double its R&D workforce by 2035.
