What was your first job as a journalist?
A truly awful high school newsletter edited by my late mother (I was homeschooled). However, it instilled in me a love for the trade.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Only for fun, though I think they are a very cool piece of machinery. Fun fact: they were invented in Milwaukee!
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Journalists not only tell stories vital to everyday living, but they also provide the first draft of our historical record, an important job.
What's your favorite social network?
LinkedIn and YouTube. I don't use social media beyond the networking and business acumen gathering. I don't use other social media platforms.
Why did you become a journalist?
To tell stories of importance to readers and society in general. We all should take pride in our collective story.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I worked on my college newspaper, The SWORD, where I wrote, edited, and guided writers as I rose through the ranks to EIC.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Be passionate, keep digging, and be respectful. Tell all the stories you come across, not just the big name ones.
