Could there be a new kind of buzz around the J. Carver Distillery location? The Waconia planning commission and city council have been mulling ordinance changes that would enable a retail cannabis dispensary to be located at the property. As J. Carver owners announced this spring, the distillery will cease operations this fall and the building is for sale.

Sovereign Estate slates fireworks display for July 3

Waconia’s July 4th fireworks will look a bit different this year. For one, there’s a new organizer and host; for another the fireworks will be on Friday, July 3, not the Fourth. As announced earlier this year, this year, Sovereign Estate Winery has taken on stewardship of the fireworks from the Waconia Chamber of Commerce, which had guided the event for over 30 years.

Trails, opioid settlement funds top county agenda

There are several miles of trails in Carver County, with the number of regional and local trails growing considerably in recent years. County commissioners had a conversation about maintenance of existing trails and planning for future trails at a June 9 work session. Carver County Public Works has prepared a draft capital improvement plan based on a current condition rating assessment of existing trails that Director Lyndon Robjent shared with the board.
