Conrad "Connie" Gau, 95 year old resident of Little Falls passed away on Wednesday, July 8 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living. A Memorial held on Monday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church Belle Prairie. Visitation held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. The burial will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls.
Royalton Sr. Legion traveled to Litchfield on July 8, defeating Litchfield 4-2 after scoring four unanswered runs. Litchfield started the scoring right away in the bottom of the first when Gideon Boerema hit a two-run home run to give Litchfield an early 2-0 lead. That score held until the fourth inning when Keaton Nelson led off with a solo home run to bring Royalton within one run. Later in the inning, Ryan Swenson hit a sacrifice fly to score Sean Schmidtbauer and tie the game at 2-2.
Upsala/Swanville Legion hosted Morris for a doubleheader July 8. Upsala/Swanville took game one by a score of 7-1 before dropping game two 10-9. Upsala/Swanville took an early lead in game one when Carson Primus hit a sacrifice fly to score Cal Leners. Will Schaffer followed with an RBI groundout that scored Owen Servatius for a 2-0 advantage.
A mailer advocating for the reelection of State Sen. incumbent Ron Latz sparked worry for party leadership after the DFL seal was accidentally placed on the bottom of an advertisement. The issue? Neither Latz nor his competitor Lynette Dumalag secured the party’s endorsement at the convention in March. The mailer reached 7,000 homes in the district in early July. Incumbent Ron Latz has had a seat in the Minnesota senate, representing districts 44 and 46 since 2007.
Pierz VFW hosted Cold Spring for a doubleheader July 8. Pierz won game one 1-0 before dropping game two 3-1. Game one remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Preston Saehr doubled to score Blake Gross, giving Pierz a 1-0 lead. That was all the offense Pierz needed as Cam Waytashek threw a complete-game shutout, allowing two hits and four walks while striking out five. Pierz struck first in game two.
Little Falls VFW hosted Sartell for a doubleheader July 8. Little Falls lost game one 9-5 before taking game two by a score of 10-7. Little Falls got the scoring started in the second inning when Kade Fuechtmann singled, scoring Bjorn Bartos. Reed Hakes followed with a double that scored Kyce Heier to give Little Falls a 2-0 lead. Little Falls added to its lead in the fourth when Isaiah Iverson singled, scoring Fuechtmann. Hakes scored in the same inning when Ryan Newman laid down a sacrifice bunt.

A window-smashing spree put a damper on the Fourth of July weekend in St. Louis Park when 16 calls were made to the police department. The 5 a.m. incident on Sunday, July 5 hit the 2600 and 2900 blocks of Quentin Avenue South, and property was reportedly stolen from the damaged cars. No suspects were caught, and the investigation is ongoing according to Jacque Smith, Communications and technology director for the city.
